The Falcons are starting to get back on track. Their 1st winning streak of the season got them to a 4-3 record, and it came against the then 5-1 Lions. In a 23-16 win the Falcons had a solid effort from each side of the ball, with Michael Turner leading the way with 27 carries for 122 yards. Matt Ryan ran for a TD and threw one, but also was intercepted twice. K Matt Bryant hit 3 key FG’s, as he continued his perfect season. Overall the offense was good, and got points when they needed to.
Defensively Atlanta somewhat held down Detriot’s big time passing attack. Calvin Johnson still scored and got 100 yards, but he wasn’t allowed to totally wreck the game. The defense was able to sack QB Matthew Stafford 3 times, and knocked him around pretty well. This will be the key to future success for the defense. If they can continue to pressure the QB and get sacks consistently, the stops will come. Next week the birds match up against the Colts, in Indy. Coach Mike Smith said after the game ” Good teams go on streaks.” I imagine the Colts as a perfect team to prolong a streak against.
