Score 1 for Matty Ice. The Falcons played an solid game on Sunday night, winning a tight 35-31 decision over the visiting Eagles. The big story from the game was Eagles QB Mike Vick exiting in the 3rd quarter with a concussion. As well as he had played up to that point, he had also fumbled twice and was being hit far too often. The Falcons defense looked prepared for a lot of sideline to sideline running and they contained Vick well. He had only 25 yards on the ground, to go along with 3 turnovers. Backup QB Mike Kafka came into the game for Vick and played well, but couldn’t do enough to seal a victory. Even with success on the ground with LeSean McCoy the Eagles looked uninterested with their running game in the second half. Andy Reed’s play calling may have saved Atlanta.
Matt Ryan had a nice day throwing for 4 TD’s and 195 yards. After a key fumble by Vick, Ryan led a drive that ended in a spectacular touchdown catch for TE Tony Gonzalez. In the 4th quarter the Falcons came back from a 31-21 deficit and scored 2 TD’s to win the game late. One was a goal line play action pass to FB Ovie Mughelli, the other a 3 yard run by Michael Turner. The game marked the 6th time in franchise history that the Falcons came back from down 10 points in the 4th quarter. After the game the team found out that CB Dunta Robinson would be fined $40,000 for his hit on WR Jeremy Maclin. This is his 2nd offense for such hits and is lucky to not have been suspended. Next week the Falcons have a divisional game against the rival Bucs. Come back later in the week for my game preview.
